[영어문법독학]과거진행시제 - 과거의 어떤 순간에 뭔가 하는 중이였다

 

 

 

Hi, jack. What were you doing at 8 yesterday?

안녕 잭 어제 저녁 8시에는 무엇을 하는 중이었어?

I was watching TV at that time.

그 시간에, 나는 TV 를 보는 중이었어.

So you didn't run by the riverside yesterday.

그래서 어제는 강변을 달리지 않았구나.

 

우리말로 이런 대화를 한다면 참 어색하게 들릴 것이다.

하지만 영어식 표현으로는 가장 자연스럽다. 

과거의 특정 시점에서 어떤 일을 하고 있었다면 과거 진행형으로 표현해야 한다.

was + 현재분사 (ing)  

were + 현재분사 (ing)

ㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡ

=~ 하는 중이 었다.

 

과거진행형에서 중요한 포인트는 be동사만 과거로 만든다는 것이다.

현재분사인 ~하는중 : ing 는 바뀌지 않고 be 동사인 "이다" 가 " 이었다" 로 바뀐다.
