[영어문법독학] 진행시제 (그 순간에 하고 있는 것만 말할 때)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A. 너 뭐하냐?

B. 너 뭐하고 있냐?

C. 너 뭐하는 중이냐?

 

우리말로는 a ,b 가 더 자연스럽다.

그렇지만 영어는 정확하게 해석 해야 한다. 

c.  너 뭐하는 중이냐 = What are you doing?

 

답은 뭐라 할까?

A. 나 tv 본다.

B. 나 tv 보고 있다.

C. 나 tv 보는 중이다. 

 

역시 영어식 대답은 c가 더 자연스럽다. 

나는 tv를 보는 중이다 = I am watching TV.

 

고로 진행시제가 나오면 무조건 ~하는 중이다 라는 말을 떠올리자.

습관이 되어야 영어로 말할 때 실수를 줄일 수 있고 독해를 할때도 시제에 따라 변형하기가 쉽다. 

 

영어에서 특정한 시점에서 하는 일은 모두 진행형으로 표현한다.

진행형은 "그 순간" 이라는 특정한 시점을 표현한다 (진행시제 = 진행형) 

 

1. 현재진행시제 - 지금 이 순간에 하고 있는 일만 하고 싶다. 

 

바로 지금 현재, 지금 이 순간 이라는게 포인트다. 

"바로 지금" 이라는 표현이 없더라도 현재진행형이 쓰이면 "바로 지금" 이라는 의모가 들어 있다는 것으로 생각을 하고

읽고, 말하고, 듣고 , 쓰는게 좋다. 

 

I am reading Harry Potter.

나는 해리포터를 읽는 중이다. 

She is working.

그녀는 일하는 중이다. 

 

be + ing 

= ~ 하는 중이다 

 

 

* having 으로 쓰는 경우와 쓰지 않는 경우

 

have 는 대표적인 뜻으로 가지고 있다, 먹다 이다.

"나는 점심을 먹는 중이다" 를 영어로 하면 "먹는 중인" having

 

I am having lunch.

나는 점심을 먹는 중이다.

 

나는 자동차를 가지고 있다 를 영어로 하면?

I have a car.

 

I having a car 로 쓰지 않는다 

왜?

가지고 있거나, 가지고 있지 않거나 이지 

가지는 중으로 쓰지 않는다. 

우리 말로도 어색하다. 나는 자동차를 가지는 중이다.

 

그래서 have 가 가지다 의 뜻일 때는 상태동사는 진행형으로 쓸 수 없다는 문법이 여기서 나온다.

그런데 꼭 그런것도 아니다.

 

I am having a meeting.

나는 회의중이다. (나는 회의를 가지는 중이다.)

 

 

결국 아무리 문법을 외워도 예외는 있다.

현재분사 등의 활용형태에 따라 정확한 해석을 하면, 문법 사항을 외우지 않고도 

어색한지 자연스러운지 스스로 느낄 수 있게 된다.
